Introduction
Sorbitan monopalmitate, often referred to as sorbitan palmitate or SMP, is created through the esterification of sorbitan and palmitic acid. Its molecular formula is C22H4206 and it appears as a light yellow granular solid at room temperature. SMP is a Water-in-Oil (W/O) emulsifier with an HLB value of 6.7. Beyond its emulsifying properties, sorbitan monopalmitate also serves as a stabilizer and thickener in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic formulations. In the textile industry, it is used as a lubricant, softener, and finishing agent. Additionally, it is used as a dispersant in printing ink.
